A German Champions League club are reportedly targeting a Premier League boss to be their next manager – but it could be an expensive swoop.

RB Leipzig are apparently planning to replace Marco Rose at the end of the season and have been drawing up a list of candidates.

Jurgen Klopp is said to have approved Stuttgart boss Sebastian Hoeness as the chief target while former Benfica manager Roger Schmidt is also on the list.

However, Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner is one of the top three targets, according to Sport Sport Germany.

Glasner led Eintracht Frankfurt to Europa League glory in the 2021-22 season and has Palace sitting 12th in the Premier League.

However, reports in Germany last year claimed that Bayern Munich tried to prise him from Palace’s grasp – only to be met with an astonishing financial firewall.

Bild reported last season that Palace rebuffed Bayern’s approach with a £186million compensation demand – four times the record paid to ‘buy’ a manager.

Bayern had offered roughly £15.5m but after enjoying a bounce under Glasner, chairman Steve Parish was not keen to let him go.

Leipzig are on course to finish sixth in the Bundesliga – their worst placement since 2017-18 – and came 32nd out of 36 in the Champions League league phase.

Palace have won six of their last 10 Premier League games, drawing two and losing twice, and are through to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup after beating south London rivals Millwall 3-1 on Saturday.

Glasner’s contract at Selhurst Park expires at the end of next season.

One of the impressive aspects this season has been how Palace have retained their excitement despite losing key man Michael Olise to Bayern Munich over the summer.

Jean-Philippe Mateta has bagged nine goals this campaign, continuing the form he established under Glasner from February onwards last season.
