Arsenal are reportedly interested in a Bayern Munich star whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

The German giants have successfully qualified for the next Champions League phase after beating Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen 5-0 on aggregate in the round of 16.

Xabi Alonso’s fans were full of hope that home stands would help the team get a potential comeback in the second leg, but they went behind in the second in the 52nd minute following a goal from Harry Kane after a defensive mix-up.

Vincent Kompany’s band are set to take on Inter Milan in the quarter-final, with the first game taking place at Allianz Arena on April 8.

Leroy Sane – who is set to become a free agent at the end of the season – remained on the bench at BayArena, with the Belgian manager giving preference to the link between Kingsley Coman and Michael Olise.

Furthermore, according to Bild, Mikel Arteta is keen to sign the German winger after several years spent in Manchester City, when the Spaniard was the assistant coach in Pep Guardiola’s side.

It is understood that Mikel Arteta is specifically keen to bring Sane to the Emirates Stadium

The north London club are reportedly looking for reinforcements in the attacking line after several key injuries that decimated their chances of a Premier League triumph this season.

Regular starters Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo both suffered multiple setbacks throughout this campaign, while the academy product was sidelined since late December due to a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, the report indicates that Sane would have signed a new contract if one had been offered. It is understood that the Bundesliga giants are only interested in lowering his salary amid a poor season by the German.

Sane saw his playing time reduced after Olise’s arrival at Allianz Arena, as he started just 12 times out of 21 matches in the domestic league this season.

The former Man City star has not scored in over a month and has had four goals and assists during this campaign overall.

However, it is believed that Sane and current Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl maintain a good relationship, and the specialist does not want to lose another winger, considering that Serge Gnabry is likely to leave and Coman is set for a move to Saudi Arabia.

The 29-year-old made the switch to the Bavarian giants in the summer of 2020, following four years in Guardiola’s squad.

Throughout his five seasons at Bayern, Sane has scored 56 goals and added 50 assists in 209 games.

Last November, Arsenal had emerged as a competitor with Manchester United for the German’s signature in order to bring him back to the Premier League.

Sane was a key figure in Guardiola’s squad, forming a famous attacking trio with Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling during their Centurion season.

However, similarly to the Englishman, the 29-year-old star was often missing consistency due to several separate setbacks.

He had already been linked to a Bundesliga switch before joining Bayern Munich, but an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the Community Shield kept him out almost for the whole season.
