One of the key areas that Ruben Amorim earmarked for improvement after taking charge of Manchester United in November was player fitness.

The Portuguese manager was said to be stunned by the lack of intensity shown by some of his players during training sessions early on in his reign and was quick to demand more.

Amorim seemingly likes to look after his own fitness levels too as he was spotted by a fan working out at a morning gym session in a Bucharest hotel during United’s Europa League trip to Romania this week.

A Romanian football fan took to Instagram on Thursday to share two photos of himself next to Amorim.

One showed them posing together outside of a hotel elevator, while the other was taken when both men were sat inside a weight room.

The fan, known on Instagram as razvan.oprea.91, shared the pictures alongside the caption: ‘Morning gym with Ruben Amorim – Manchester Utd coach’.

United supporter and podcaster Scott Saunders later shared the snaps via X (formerly Twitter), where he quipped: ‘Nah I love that Ruben Amorim’s just gone and used the hotel gym in Bucharest and did some chest and shoulders alongside this local fella’.

It turned out to be a successful trip to Romania for Amorim and his team as a 2-0 win over FCSB secured third place in the league phase of the UEFA Europa League.

That achievement means that United will not have to play in the playoff round and will instead go directly into the round of 16 in March, when they will meet AZ Alkmaar, Midtjylland, Real Sociedad or Galatasaray.

Thursday’s win over FCSB came courtesy of second-half goals from Diogo Dalot and Kobbie Mainoo.

United have now won three games in a row, having also recently beaten Fulham and Rangers.

Next up for the Red Devils will be a home game against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday.
