Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies has signed a new five-year contract with the club to end speculation surrounding his future.

Davies, 24, has played 220 times for the German giants since arriving from Vancouver Whitecaps at the age of 18.

The attacking left back has won 13 trophies with Bayern, including five Bundesliga titles and one Champions League, but with his deal running out in the summer, Davies looked set to leave the club.

Real Madrid had been strongly linked with signing the Canadian on a free transfer – with some reports even claiming a deal had been agreed – while Man United were also credited with an interest in Davies.

However, Davies has now penned a new five-year deal with Bayern, taking his time with the club up to 2030.

Speaking after news of his contract extension was announced, Davies said: ‘I am very happy to have extended my contract at this great club.

‘I came to FC Bayern when I was 18 and just wanted to learn as much as possible every day to become one of the best in my position.

‘Now I’m looking forward to another five years together. I’ve already achieved a lot here, but there’s more to come.’

Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund added: ‘Alphonso Davies has become one of the best players in the world in his position at Bayern and has attracted a lot of interest.

‘The fact he wants to continue here with us shows Bayern’s status in international football and that Alphonso has found his sporting home in Munich.’

Davies, who has also scored 15 times in 56 caps for Canada, has gained rave reviews for his performances in Germany over recent years.

He is viewed as one of the best attacking full backs on the planet, with the 24-year-old scoring 12 goals and providing 34 assists for the club.

From January 1, he was able to agree a pre-contract with a foreign side, but Davies has decided to spend the peak years of his career with Bayern.

‘Phonzy has been playing for Bayern since he was 18 and quickly embraced the club,’ Bayern’s director of sport Max Eberl added.

‘We see him as one of the figures in the new generation of our team who are increasingly taking on responsibility. He’s grown up here and will continue to grow with the team.’

Davies has played 25 times for the club so far this season and his decision to stay is a major boost to Vincent Kompany’s side.

Bayern currently sit top of the Bundesliga, six points clear of reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen, while they face Celtic in the Champions League play-off round.

Davies and Bayern return to action on Friday when they entertain Werder Bremen.
