Galatasaray are keen to sign former Newcastle captain Kieran Trippier.

Ex-Tottenham star Trippier featured for the Magpies as a 64th-minute substitute in Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat by Newcastle but he is not been a first-team regular under Eddie Howe this season.

Trippier, who lost the role of Newcastle captain to Bruno Guimaraes in August, has only started five of the team’s 24 Premier League matches this term.

Newcastle would be able to sell or loan Trippier to Galatasaray up until February 11, as the transfer window in Turkey closes eight days later than it does in England.

A move to Galatasaray could appeal to 34-year-old Trippier as it would likely allow him to add to his collection of silverware.

Galatasaray won the Turkish Super Lig with 102 points last season and are currently six points clear in the ongoing title race.

The Istanbul outfit are also still in the Europa League after placing 14th during the league phase. They will face AZ Alkmaar in a two-legged play-off later this month, with the winner going through to meet Manchester United or Spurs in the last 16.

Trippier has played oversees before and was part of the Atletico Madrid side that won La Liga in 2020-21.

Newcastle paid Atletico £12million when they brought him back to England in January 2022.

He has since made 108 appearances for the Tyneside club, scoring four goals.
