He wrote: ‘Happy birthday to the best partner and mum we love you.’

Greenwood joined Marseille in the summer in a £30million move and has scored 14 goals in 23 appearances for the French side.

It was decided he would leave Man United after he was arrested in January 2022 before being charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour.

Charges against Greenwood were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service following the ‘withdrawal of key witnesses and new material coming to light’.

Greenwood had come through the academy at Man United before graduating to the first team.

He went on to make 129 appearances and score 35 goals for the first team.

He spent last season on loan at Getafe, scoring 10 goals and registering six assists on his way to being named the club’s player of the season.

His move to France sparked a backlash from livid Marseille fans, who launched a #GreenwoodNotWelcome campaign when he was initially linked with the club.

Marseille’s mayor Benoit Payan also opposed the move, saying he would lobby the club’s president Pablo Longoria to call off the deal.

Greenwood, however, received a warm welcome when the move was confirmed and has since become a key player for the club.
