French giants Lyon were humbled by fifth-tier amateur side FC Bourgoin-Jallieu as they crashed out of the Coupe de France round of 32 on Wednesday.
Supporters poured onto the pitch at the final whistle in wild scenes of celebration at beating their illustrious neighbours.
The Ligue 1 side dominating the game with 21 shots and 72% possession but could only draw the match 2-2 before being eliminated on penalties.
‘We play football for this,’ goalkeeper Ronan Jay told beIN Sports. ‘It will stay with us for life, it’s unbelievable.’
Less than 50 kilometres separate the two cities, but the clubs have little in common. Lyon is one of the most celebrated clubs in France, having won the league title seven times to add to its five Cup titles, while Bourgoin-Jallieu plays in the fifth division.
Mehdi Moujetzky opened the scoring for the minnows but the dream looked over when the five-time winners of the competition were ahead by the 64th minute thanks to strikes from former Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic and Georges Mikautadze.

But Moujetzky grabbed his second goal of the night just five minutes later and the hosts held on to take the game to spot-kicks.
More drama ensued from penalties when former Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette and Corentin Tolisso both missed their spot kicks.
The fifth-tier side, meanwhile, remained composed enough to win things 4-2.
It was the first time Lyon, who are sixth in Ligue 1, have been eliminated in the Coupe de France by a team outside of France’s top four divisions.
