Woyo Coulibaly has become Leicester’s first signing of the January window after arriving from Italian club Parma in a £3million deal.

Boss Ruud van Nistelrooy had been desperate to bring in specialist competition at right-back for James Justin, who has struggled at times this season.

Coulibaly, 25, helped Parma win promotion to the Italian top flight last season and has made 14 appearances as they fight to keep their place in Serie A this term.

Van Nistelrooy will hope the signing Coulibaly, who was due to watch Wednesday’s clash with Crystal Palace at King Power Stadium, will start a period of transfer activity for Leicester that helps them avoid relegation.

They have not ruled out trying to sign a goalkeeper during the current transfer window as Mads Hermansen remains sidelined with injury.

The Dane has not played since he was taken off during the Foxes’ 4-0 defeat at Newcastle and Mail Sport revealed he had visited a specialist to try to understand the nature of the injury.

After Danny Ward’s poor showing in the home defeat by Wolves, Leicester boss Ruud van Nistelrooy has turned to Jakub Stolarczyk but the Pole is inexperienced at Premier League level and Van Nistelrooy is unlikely to turn to Ward or Daniel Iversen.

Leicester are chasing a left-sided centre-back, a winger and a forward and would like to cancel Odsonne Edouard’s season-long loan deal from Crystal Palace.
