Marcus Rashford has received a mixed reaction after a clip of the Manchester United forward coming on as a substitute against Bodo/Glimt went viral.

Rashford, 27, has enjoyed a positive week after scoring the first goal of the Ruben Amorim era against Ipswich on Sunday, with the England star netting after just 80 seconds.

The forward, who is keen to get back to the form that saw him score 30 goals during the 2022-23 campaign, was preferred in attack to Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee at Portman Road.

He was then rested from the starting XI by Amorim for United’s Europa League tie against the Norwegian side on Thursday night.

Rashford was introduced off the bench for Mason Mount after 59 minutes as the former Chelsea star continues to build up his fitness following several injury problems over the past year.

However, in a clip circulating on social media, as Rashford prepared to come on, Amorim could be seen telling the forward to take off his gloves.

In reaction, Rashford appeared to throw his gloves on the ground, with a staff member forced to pick them up.

It is unclear if Rashford had seen the coach as he attempted to get in the zone before entering the pitch.

Nevertheless, some fans were less than impressed with the forward and expressed their displeasure with his conduct.

One said: ‘Should be docked wages. Poor bloke picking his gloves off the floor when he’s stood arm’s length away.

‘Who does he think he is? Maybe I’m out of touch here but that’s just literal basics surely?’

A further fan chimed in and said: ‘Thought this was going to be another pointless dig at Rashford, but this is c**p from him.’

An extra individual added: ‘No one should be doing that though. Not just Rashford. No one.’

However, others insisted that too much was being made out of the incident and threw their backing behind Rashford.

Amorim outlined his desire to help Rashford get back to his best after his recent struggles

‘Does a matchday go by without people forcing controversy on Rashford?,’ one said. ‘By far most talked about player on this app now.’

Another said: ‘The microanalysis of Rashford is getting boring, repetitive and predictable.’

‘This might be the most nothing video ever. Anything to hate on Rashford,’ a further fan posted, before an extra supporter said: ‘Stop trying to make something out of nothing. Should Salah be docked a weeks wages for calling out his owners unnecessarily?’

Meanwhile, speaking on Wednesday, Amorim outlined his desire to help Rashford get back to his best during his tenure.

Rashford scored 30 goals in Erik ten Hag’s first season at United in 2022-23, but that dropped to eight last term and he has scored four times in the current campaign.

‘I will try to help him,’ said Amorim. ‘That position (striker) is not the best one for him, especially in a game like that (against Ipswich).

‘We have to kick with high pressure, we have to kick the ball so many times, and it was like fighting with two giants.

‘We’ll try to find the right solution for him, as for the other players. But he has to be Marcus, first of all, to try to return to that moment and then he will have all the help of the staff, the club and the fans because he’s a Manchester United boy. But he has to be the first one to want it.’

United are back in action on Sunday when they entertain Everton at Old Trafford, with Amorim’s side currently six points off the top four.
