Netflix fans ‘cringe’ over Kate Abdo’s ‘awful’ American accent during Tyson vs Jake Paul fight

Kate Abdo left fans baffled during Netflix’s livestream of Jake Paul’s unanimous win over Mike Tyson in Texas Friday night.

The sports presenter, best known for steering the ship amid Micah Richards, Jamie Carragher and Thierry Henry’s hilarity on CBS’s Champions League coverage, switched to boxing duties for Netflix at AT&T Stadium.

However, viewers were quick to claim that sports weren’t the only thing that the British host was switching up.

Abdo, who hails from Manchester in the north of England, was accused of putting on a fake American accent to host the panel alongside Andre Ward and Cedric the Entertainer.

Many fans were left stunned, questioning why the 43-year-old was faking the ‘awful’ accent.

‘Yo @netflix why have you got #kateabdo talking in that awful accent hahahahaha keep it real Kate,’ one boxing fan posed with several American flag emojis.

‘Why is Kate Abdo putting on that American accent,’ another baffled viewer asked. ‘It’s hilarious but cringeworthy.’

Another was as equally confused, questioning: ‘Why is Kate Abdo speaking in an American accent???’

‘I can’t take is pathetic attempt at an American accent from Kate Abdo #PaulTyson,’ one viewer wrote, before sharing a GIF that indicated that they were ‘dying of cringe.’

‘As a person from the UK i sincerely apologise to every American for Kate Abdo’s terrible cringy American accent,’ one British viewer apologetically chimed in.

‘Kate Abdo needs to allow all these different accents,’ another social media user chastised. ‘It’s jarring you are born in Manchester. Stop putting some dumb voice.’

Meanwhile, one viewer shared a GIF of the iconic moment Abdo’s CBS colleagues Henry and Carragher shockingly found out that former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers had been fired live on Sky Sports.

‘The Kate Abdo accent switch,’ they added alongside the short clip.

Abdo as hosted multiple major boxing events for various broadcasters including DAZN and Fox.

In September, the presenter tied the knot with America boxing trainer Malik Scott in a glamorous ceremony in the Malibu hills.

Malik’s children were present for the ceremony – with the happy couple posing for photos with the trainer’s son and daughter after the nuptials.

Born in Manchester, England, Abdo initially worked with networks such as Sky Sports and Fox Sports before making her mark in the United States. She is widely recognised for her work as the host of CBS Sports’ coverage of the UEFA Champions League .

Abdo’s career took off when she became a regular presenter on Sky Sports, focusing on European football and other major sporting events. But it was her fluency in Spanish, German, and French that made her stand out.

Meanwhile, Scott has earned his reputation as a professional boxer and trainer for heavyweight boxer Deontay Wilder.
