Serie A leaders Napoli suffered their first home defeat of the season on Sunday by losing 3-0 to title rivals Atalanta.

Former Everton and Fulham forward Ademola Lookman scored two goals inside the first half, including a fabulous strike from well outside the penalty area.

Mateo Retegui then wrapped up Atalanta’s victory by finding the net in the 92nd minute. Retegui has now scored 11 goals in 11 Serie A games this season.

Sunday’s result saw Atalanta climb to within three points of leaders Napoli.

It also gave Inter Milan the chance to move just one point behind Antonio Conte’s side if they could beat Venezia last in the day.

MATCH FACTS

Regardless of the result at San Siro, Atalanta’s win guaranteed that the weekend would end with four teams within a four-point range of Napoli.

‘I think the team played well,’ Napoli manager Conte said after Sunday’s defeat.

‘There were obviously areas, particularly around the goals we conceded, where we could have done better.

‘But I have nothing to criticise in terms of the will and commitment shown by my team.

‘We have to take these results as lessons without being ashamed of what happened.’

Romelu Lukaku had a good chance to open the scoring in Naples but saw his early effort saved by Atalanta keeper Marco Carnesecchi.
