Mason Greenwood returned to the scoresheet as Marseille thrashed Montpellier 5-0.

Greenwood joined the French giants in the summer from Manchester United in a permanent £30million deal

He scored five goals in his opening three matches for the club but then went four consecutive games without a goal or an assist.

The 23-year-old ended his short drought with a superb strike as Marseille returned to winning ways by thrashing Montpellier away from home.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side had led 3-0 when Greenwood breezed past a defender with step overs before unleashing a powerful shot past the goalkeeper with his right foot just before the hour mark.

Elye Wahi, Amine Harit, Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg and Luis Henrique were the other goalscorers for Marseille, who remain third in the table.

Greenwood’s latest goal comes after reports emerged that he wants to sit down with Thomas Tuchel and the Football Association to discuss a route back into the England national team.

He is determined to be a part of Tuchel’s regime to make the 2026 World Cup, and will switch allegiance to Jamaica if he is barred, as per The Sun.

The Bradford-born striker is eligible to play for the Caribbean nation through his paternal grandparents.

A source told The Sun: ‘Mason knows his chances of playing for England again are very slim. But he wants to check with the FA and Tuchel now he has been appointed to see what they think.

‘He is determined to play at the highest level and that means the World Cup.

‘So if England don’t want him, he’ll switch to Jamaica and try and get to the 2026 World Cup that way.’

Gareth Southgate never ruled out Greenwood making a future return but amid his legal case did admit it was not a ‘consideration’ to include him.

His only cap came against Iceland in September 2020, but he was sent home from the camp alongside Phil Foden after footage emerged of the pair bringing two women back to the team hotel despite Covid-19 restrictions.
