Xavi’s Barcelona future has been plunged into fresh chaos after the Catalan manager angered board members with his recent comments about the club’s economic situation, according to reports.
His managerial career at the club he earned legendary status at as a player has never been simple after Xavi initially returned to take charge at a time when Barcelona’s finances appeared to be in ruins.
The World Cup winner has been plagued with talk of leaving ever since arriving at the Nou Camp dugout in 2021, and later looking set to exit at the end of the season before U-turning on his decision.
Club president Joan Laporta was desperate for Xavi to cancel his earlier decision to leave Barcelona and eventually getting his wish last month in a sudden reversal.
However, they are now considering permanently cutting ties after the head coach’s press update on Barcelona’s finances and potential summer recruitment prior to their LaLiga contest against Almeria.

Xavi stated at the time: ‘The Culé must understand that the situation is very complicated to compete economically.
‘It has nothing to do with what we had 25 years ago when the coach would come and say ‘I want this one, this one, and this one’. It doesn’t work like that anymore.
‘I understand that and that’s how we’re going to adjust to it. That doesn’t mean we’re not going to compete. We need stability and time. There are good things to compete for. The situation we are in is the situation we are in in terms of results.
‘Last year we were solvent without playing the football we would like to play and this year, we have played better, but with worse results,’ he added.
Xavi later attempted to clarify his earlier comments, adding: ‘I said what I think, the economic situation is not the best and we are all working very well to improve the situation. We will fight to get titles, nothing changes.’

Barcelona directors are believed to be furious for his public addressal of the club’s financial position ahead of the conclusion of the Spanish top-flight season, as reported by RAC1.
President Laporta was left so outraged by the media statement made by his team manager that he is now considering terminating Xavi’s contract, which would mean a late scramble to find a replacement before the transfer window opens.
Last season’s LaLiga champions rely heavily on trophy success to generate funds for new signings after previously having to sell off broadcasting and image rights as they battled an economic crisis.
However, performances haven’t been good enough this season, with Xavi and his team of superstars set to end the campaign without any silverware.
