Samir Nasri has been mocked by fans for his comments criticising Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Martinez shushed the crowd and gestured towards the home fans as Villa won on penalties away to Lille to secure their place in the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League.

The goalkeeper has become known in recent years for antagonising opposing players and fans, which included winding up France during Argentina’s World Cup final success in 2022.

Nasri claimed that Martinez’s actions are in stark contrast to how he behaved when he was at Arsenal as a youngster.

Speaking on Canal +, Nasri said: ‘His behaviour annoys me because he wasn’t like that before. I knew him when he was very young at Arsenal. He was very shy.

‘And now, this behaviour has become his stock in trade.’

However, fans were quick to mock Nasri’s comments, stating that it is common for people to change.

One Arsenal fan wrote: ‘I don’t like him as well but if he annoys Nasri then I love him so much.’

Another user claimed that Nasri’s comments are hypocritical. They wrote: ‘Same as you, Samir Nasri. You weren’t like this before. It’s life, and people change.’

Meanwhile, another fan wrote: ‘At least he stayed with us ….he understands loyalty…I can’t say the same for you’.

One user told Nasri to ‘stop whining’. They wrote: ‘People change, people grow Stop whining’.

In addition, another added: ‘It’s because his country Argentina whipped yours at the world cup finals’.

Another user wrote: ‘That’s his style. Stop crying about everything Nasri’.

Furthermore, another user added: ‘See who’s talking about behaviour, Nasri and good behaviour shouldn’t be in the same sentence’.

Martinez joined Arsenal as a youth player in 2010 and had yet to make his senior debut when Nasri left the club in 2011.

After making 38 appearances for the Gunners, Martinez left for Aston Villa in 2020.

Against Lille, Martinez received a second yellow card in the shootout but was allowed to remain on the pitch due to a little-known rule.

Martinez will be suspended for the first leg of Villa’s Europa Conference League semi-final against Olympiacos but he proved to be the hero in the shootout against Lille as he saved the decisive penalty from Benjamin Andre.
