Arsenal have announced the departure of Nuno Tavares, who has joined Lazio on a season-long loan.

Full-back Tavares joins the Serie A side from the Gunners after playing at Nottingham Forest last season.

Tavares, who Arsenal signed from Portuguese club Benfica in 2021, has made 28 appearances for the north London club in all competitions, but has struggled to nail down his place in Mikel Arteta’s squad.

He will now play his football under Igor Tudor, who managed Tavares at Marseille during the 2022-23 campaign.

Meanwhile, Arsenal midfielder Sambi Lokonga heading to LaLiga side Sevilla on a similar deal.

Lokonga arrived in north London from Anderlecht in July 2021 and has made 39 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions.

The 24-year-old has had previous loan spells with Crystal Palace and, last season, Luton, making 17 Premier League appearances for the Hatters.

Arteta will hope that a spell in Spain will help the Belgian grow, in what Arsenal described as the ‘next step’ in Lokonga’s career.

Sevilla have confirmed they have an option to buy Lokonga, reportedly for around £10million, once the loan spell ends. Arsenal are said to have a 25 per cent sell-on clause if Sevilla make the move permanent.
