Kylian Mbappe’s ‘£47MILLION war’ with former club PSG could go to mediation as LFP’s legal committee request next step after lawyers meet

The Legal Committee of the Professional Football League (LFP) has requested a mediation over a wage dispute between Kylian Mbappe and Paris Saint-Germain.

Mbappe reportedly contacted UEFA last month regarding a £47million fee that he believes he was not paid during his seven-year stay with the Ligue 1 club.

According to reports from Le Monde, the total amount includes his signing bonus, which the player was initially meant to receive in February, as well as the last three months of his salary.

Via L’Equipe, lawyers of both parties met on Wednesday morning through invitation of the LFP and received information of the request from the Committee.

PSG also released a statement issuing that a mediation had been requested to settle the dispute.

‘Paris Saint-Germain is very pleased with today’s two-hour hearing before the Commission,’ the statement read. ‘The Club recalled that the player has made clear, repeated public and private commitments that must be respected, having been afforded unprecedented benefits by the Club over seven fantastic years in Paris.

‘In the light of the Club’s oral and documented arguments, the Commission insisted on mediation between the parties, which Paris Saint-Germain has been seeking for many months. The Commission has now invited the player to consider the mediation process.’

Mbappe, who is the captain of the French national team, left the champions of his homeland in the summer on a free transfer, joining Real Madrid.

His departure came after years of reported disputes with the club, including Mbappe reportedly trying to leave the club for Liverpool in 2022.

Since his move to Spain, the 25-year-old has made five appearances for the LaLiga title holders, scoring his debut goal against Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup and winning his first trophy at the club.

Earlier reports indicated that the Ligue 1 champions had refused to pay Mbappe his wages in an effort to save the promised loyalty bonus from his 2022 extension.

Furthermore, reports suggest that PSG believe that Mbappe should not receive the money owed to him as they had an agreement that he would not leave the club for free.

The club has reportedly issued a written warning over the case in response to Mbappe’s action.

Reports in June stated that the striker sent PSG a formal notice regarding £85million in unpaid finances after they claimed that they simply ‘forgot’ to pay his wages.

Although the dispute began throughout the 2023-24 season, Mbappe demonstrated respect upon his PSG departure at the Globe Soccer Awards in May.

‘It is always an honour for me to be here with you guys,’ he said. ‘We won many trophies and thank you to my team-mates, to everyone that helped me. It’s part of the journey, and I want to work hard to keep my name in the history of football.’
