Kylian Mbappe agreed to join Liverpool before opting to instead stay at Paris Saint-Germain two years ago, according to a report.
The forward had a turbulent time in the French capital during his seven years at the club, eventually leaving for free in the summer and making the move to Real Madrid in Spain.
It had looked as though he would leave PSG on a number of occasions prior to that, however, none moreso than when he eventually signed a two-year contract extension in the summer of 2022.
It had seemed that the now-25-year-old would leave the club that summer after an apparent fall out, just weeks after signing a new deal with the option of a third. Things weren’t all rosy from there, however.
According to L’Equipe, Mbappe looked for a way out of the club and agreed terms on a short-term deal to Liverpool – a move that never materialised amid demands over the transfer fee.

Two years on, Mbappe has finally joined Real Madrid after years of links and speculation
Mbappe’s contract in Paris was almost up when he put pen to paper on a new deal with PSG, with the Frenchman confirming in May 2022 that he had agreed a new two-year deal with the option of a third year.
He had been strongly linked with Madrid and was expected to join Carlo Ancelotti’s side, but a late U-turn saw him stay in his homeland.
Reports, however, suggest that he felt betrayed almost instantly after his new deal, with what he considered to be unfulfilled promises made by the club.
PSG were linked with the likes of Bernardo Silva and Robert Lewandowski in the summer of 2022, though signed neither and ended up recruiting the likes of Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz instead.
Mbappe was then said to have asked to leave the club before the end of the window after expressing his frustration at senior officials, and missed the first day of the 2022-23 Ligue 1 season through apparent injury.
It is, however, reported that he missed the game due to the dispute surrounding his future, asking not to play in the 5-0 win over Clermont.
Reports suggest that both Madrid and Liverpool bid for his services, though PSG were not willing to do business with the Spanish giants and the Reds’ offer was not enough – adjudged to be worth £168.6million with PSG asking for double.
He spent a turbulent seven years with PSG before finally departing in the summer window
Any issues however would be resolved and Mbappe would play for the club for a further two years before departing for a free to Madrid this summer.
Madrid had seemingly always been the long-term destination for the forward, with it expected that he would have joined Liverpool on a short-term deal before eventually moving to Spain had the bid been accepted two years ago.
This season, Mbappe has made five appearances for his new side, netting three goals.
