Chelsea are reportedly on the cusp of selling 19-year-old centre forward Deivid Washington to Strasbourg – the Ligue 1 club that is also owned by Blues boss Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

According to L’Equipe, both clubs are ‘close to finalising a deal for Washington’ who could be sold for around £17.6million (€21m).

The centre forward joined Chelsea for £17m back in 2023 from Brazilian side, Santos, and the west London outfit now looks set to make a £600,000 uplift on the striker, should he join the French club.

L’Equipe adds that Washington is also set to agree a five-year contract upon signing for Strasbourg.

His exit comes despite Washington having only played 25 minutes for Chelsea’s senior squad since arriving at Stamford Bridge.

His Premier League debut came in October 2023 during a 2-0 defeat at home to Brentford and he would later make a 14-minute cameo during Chelsea’s 6-0 victory against Everton in April, while also making an appearance against Preston in the FA Cup in January 2024.

His team-mate, Djordje Petrovic has also been convinced to join the French outfit on loan for the season.

The goalkeeper left the club on Wednesday ahead of a proposed deal with Strasbourg.

Both players had been exiled to Enzo Maresca’s bomb squad this season, with the Italian football coach having issued a transfer warning to the group of players this week.

Speaking largely on Raheem Sterling’s situation at the club, Maresca had told those in the unwanted cohort to find themselves a move away from the club before the transfer window slams shut – as they will not receive any game time under the Blues boss.

Raheem Sterling’s ostracisation from the first team notably caught the attention of many in the footballing world.

It came after Sterling, who is on a salary of £325,000-per-week at Stamford Bridge, had been expecting to be heavily involved under new manager Maresca, but was omitted from the squad for their Premier League opener against Manchester City.

Sterling’s camp had issued a statement seeking clarity on his future before he was exiled away from the first team. The former Liverpool and City star joined Chelsea for £47.5m in 2022, with Arsenal now weighing up a move for the forward, according to The Guardian.

Speaking on Sterling, Maresca urged him and other players to leave.

‘My advice. He knows exactly what he has to do. He doesn’t need my advice. We’re going to see,’ he said.

‘I prefer to be honest with the player. The ones who are not involved, they are all players who are not going to be involved and they don’t get any minutes in case they stay.

‘We will see who is here and who is not here. The only thing I can say is the ones who are going to get minutes are the ones who I think can help us.’
