Chelsea forward David Datro Fofana’s proposed loan move to AEK Athens has collapsed.

The 21-year-old had been set to join the Greek side on a season-long loan which would also have included the option of a permanent move for £20million.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, there were late issues with the deal when the clubs started exchanging documents.

The clubs remain in disagreement over several points and there is little time to salvage the deal, with the Greek transfer window set to close.

Fofana, who has been capped by Ivory Coast at senior level, signed for Chelsea in January 2023 but isn’t part of manager Enzo Maresca’s plans.

Fofana made four appearances for Chelsea after joining and subsequently had loan spells at Union Berlin and Burnley.

He scored four goals in 15 games for Burnley in the Premier League in the second half of last season.

Chelsea had been looking to secure a move for Fofana to further reduce the large amount of players at the club.

Ben Chilwell is another player who the Blues are looking to move on, with Deivid Washington, Alex Matos and Harvey Vale still available for sale or loan.

Chelsea have offloaded 40 players during a hectic summer, with Thiago Silva, Romelu Lukaku, Conor Gallagher and Kepa Arrizabalaga amongst those to leave on permanent moves, while Raheem Sterling joined Arsenal on loan.
