Bayer Leverkusen have been presented with a unique belt by WWE following their remarkable Bundesliga season.

Xabi Alonso’s side were crowned champions and went the entire league campaign without losing.

Their achievement has now been recognised by WWE, with the belt containing the words: ‘Undisputed champion’.

WWE legend Triple H praised Leverkusen for their season as he wrote on X: ‘Congratulations to @Bayer04_en on becoming Bundesliga Champions for the first time ever after an incredible, historic UNDEFEATED season.

‘Time to celebrate like the champions you are… good luck in tomorrow’s German Cup final, and we’ll see you this August for #WWEBash In Berlin.’

The presentation of the belt comes ahead of WWE’s arrival in Germany for SmackDown on August 30 and Bash In Berlin on August 31. The latter is the first ever WWE Premium Live Event to take place in Germany.

In the league, Leverkusen won 28 and drew six of their 34 fixtures as they amassed a total of 90 points. They finished 17 points ahead of Stuttgart, who were second.

There was frustration for Leverkusen this week as they suffered a 3-0 defeat against Atalanta in the Europa League final, with Ademola Lookman scoring a hat-trick. That result saw Leverkusen’s 51-game unbeaten run in all competitions come to an end.

However, Leverkusen still have the chance to secure a domestic double as they take on Kaiserslautern on Saturday night in the DFB-Pokal final.

Alonso stressed that he was proud of his Leverkusen players despite admitting that their defeat to Atalanta was painful.

He told BBC Sport: ‘For me, the result today does not change one bit how I feel about my players or what we have been doing.

‘It hurts because we wanted to lift the trophy but you can’t have everything. We lifted the Bundesliga and we have the chance to lift the DFB Pokal on Saturday.’
