Leicester City have opened talks with Arsenal over a loan deal for striker Reiss Nelson this summer, according to a report.

The 24-year-old made 14 appearances off the bench for Mikel Arteta’s side in the Premier League last season but failed to register a goal or assist. He was handed his only league start of the campaign in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Luton in April.

In fact, Nelson has made only 10 starts for his boyhood club over the last two years.

He spent time on loan in the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim in the 2018-19 season and 12 months with Feyenoord two years later. And now according to The Sun, the England Under 21 international is set for his third temporary move away from north London.

They report that Nelson is close to joining the newly-promoted Foxes, in a move that will see him reunited with his Three Lions youth team manager Steve Cooper. The deal will reportedly include an obligation to buy.

The former Nottingham Forest boss managed Nelson at both Under 16 and Under 17 level. Cooper signed a three-year deal when he was appointed Leicester boss in June.

He had been out of work since he sacking by Forest last December following a run of five defeats in six games.

The Gunners could be set to lose a host of homegrown names this summer, with Emile Smith-Rowe also likely to depart in the window.

Fulham had a £30m bid for the midfielder rejected earlier this week, and now according to Fabrizio Romano, Palace are set to test the Gunners resolve by making a move for the 23-year-old.

TEAMSHEET: Welcome back to Mail Sport’s new football memory game… Man United dealt Arsenal their biggest defeat in 84 years when they beat them 8-2 back in 2011, but can YOU remember the Red Devils’ starting XI that day?
