Fans have labelled Craig Bellamy’s potential appointment as Vincent Kompany’s assistant at Bayern Munich as the ‘most Football Manager thing ever’ ahead of the Burnley coaching team’s shock move.

Bayern have reached an agreement for Kompany to succeed the outgoing Thomas Tuchel as manager in a sensational move.

Kompany is due to move to the Bundesliga giants despite the 38-year-old overseeing Burnley’s relegation from the Premier League, winning just five games all season.

Reports have suggested Kompany is hoping to bring his backroom staff with him to Munich, with former Liverpool and Man City forward Bellamy in line for a role.

The ex-Wales international has served as Kompany’s assistant for five years, joining his former Man City team-mate at Anderlecht and following him to Burnley.

Football fans have been quick to express surprise at the prospect of Bellamy becoming a key part of the set-up at Bayern Munich.

Several compared his potential move to the often bizarre coaching appointments of former players on the game Football Manager.

‘Craig Bellamy is about to become an assistant coach at Bayern Munich,’ one fan wrote. ‘Surely the most Football Manager thing to happen in actual football this year.’

‘Of this isn’t the most football manager this ever, Craig Bellamy assistant at Bayern,’ another added.

The Football Manager ‘X’ account respond to one of the comments, quipping ‘Not sure even we’d dream this one up’.’

Another fan joked about the potential for Bellamy to offer scathing assessments of performances after potential Bayern Munich defeats next year, given his forthright opinions throughout his player career.

The fan posted a clip of a typically outspoken Bellamy after Wales suffered a dismal 2-0 defeat to Finland in 2009.

Bellamy was heard in the clip brutally describing the match as being between ‘two poor sides’ who do not have ‘a glimmer of hope of qualifying’.

Others have also welcomed the prospect of Bellamy working alongside stars at Bayern Munich next season, but questioned the appointments after Burnley’s struggles.

‘The thought of Craig Bellamy being assistant manager at Bayern Munich is brilliant,’ one fan said. ‘But the fact you can get relegated with Burnley then get the top job in Germany is a joke.’

Another added ‘The thought of Craig Bellamy telling Muller and Kimmich whats what, tremendous’.

Bayern’s search for Thomas Tuchel’s successor has seen the likes of Xabi Alonso, former head coach Julian Nagelsmann and ex-Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick turn the role down.

The German giants had even tried to tempt Tuchel into staying after announcing his departure three months ago, but those U-turn talks failed to prompt a change of heart.

Bayern have turned to Kompany and held discussions with Burnley chairman Alan Pace over a compensation fee on Wednesday in the hope of wrapping up a deal in the coming days.
