Newcastle United’s former minority owner had one request of the club’s board Staveley’s investment group led the Saudi-backed buyout of Newcastle in 2021

Newcastle United’s now-departed minority owner, Amanda Staveley, has reportedly made one request of the board before leaving the club.

Staveley stepped down from the club’s board last week, after selling her six per cent stake in the Magpies she shared with husband, businessman Mehrdad Ghodoussi.

The English businesswoman is the chief executive of PCP Capital Partners, one of the three consortium members alongside Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and the Reuben Brothers, which bought the club from Sports Direct tycoon, Mike Ashley, in 2021.

Along with husband Ghodoussi, Staveley took a 10 per cent stake in the club in the initial takeover, before reducing their share to six per cent – enabling Saudi PIF to increase their 80 per cent stake to 85 per cent. It was announced she exited the club last week.

According to The Chronicle, Staveley ‘made one final request of Newcastle’s board’ before she left the club.

It’s believed she asked Magpie execs ‘to ensure that manager Eddie Howe received all the backing he needed’ this summer, in order to help Newcastle sustain another Champions League challenge, against the Top Four.

Howe guided the Toon to Champions League qualification in the 2022-23 season, but exited the competition in its earlier stages, after a mid-season campaign marred by an injury crisis.

Chronicle Live understands that Howe was sad to see Stavely and Ghoudussi leave the St James’ Park, after forming a ‘strong rapport’ between the three.

Staveley played a big role in appointing Howe back in November 2021, when the club remained without a chief executive and sporting director.

She has held a number of director’s roles across club in her three-year tenure, as well as being appointed to the club’s board.
