West Ham have confirmed Angelo Ogbonna as one of nine players to leave the club this summer.

The Hammers are the latest side to announce their retained list today, as in a club statement, they confirmed who would be leaving the club, and which players they still hope to sign to new deals.

There had already been one positive bit of news today, after they announced that Aaron Cresswell has signed a one-year extension –  which will take his stay at the club to a massive 11 years.

Ogbonna is the big-name player to be released by the Hammers, nine years after joining the club from Juventus.

The Italian international made 249 appearances for the Hammers, including as a substitute in their 2023 Europa Conference League final win.

The 36-year-old scored 13 goals, including headers in cup wins over Liverpool and Tottenham, and his performances led to him receiving a call-up for Italy’s Euro 2016 squad.

Julen Lopetegui’s side are hoping that academy graduates Ben Johnson and Divin Mubama will sign extensions.

Johnson, who won West Ham’s Young Player of the Year award for 2020-21 and the following season, made 69 appearances for the Hammers – though he has struggled to get a regular place in the starting XI.

Mubama meanwhile was part of West Ham’s FA Youth Cup success just last year, scoring a hat-trick in the semi-finals against Southampton and finishing as top scorer in the competition.

Despite being promoted to the first-team squad, he struggled to breakthrough, with just 75 minutes of action in the Premier League the entire season – as he was mostly an unused substitute.

Given he is 19-years-old, the Hammers would be entitled to compensation should he leave the club.

Third-choice goalkeeper Joseph Anang is leaving the club after seven years, after he too struggled to breakthrough into the team.

Development squad players Jacob Knightbridge, Keenan Appiah-Forson and Dan Chesters, along with scholars Liam Jones, Jerry Umolu, Seb Boothe and Blaise Uwandji will also leave the club.

The big change of the summer is that in the dugout, Lopetegui taking over from David Moyes.
