Trent Alexander-Arnold has admitted he has full ‘trust’ in Liverpool’s board after they appointed former Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot as Jurgen Klopp’s successor.

Liverpool were unrushed with their recruitment after Klopp announced at the start of the year that he no longer had the energy required to continue at Anfield after nine years at the club’s helm.

Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso was the original favourite before committing his future to the Bundesliga champions, while Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim was also mooted as a potential option.

Eventually Liverpool settled on Slot with the Dutchman being given Klopp’s public backing during his final Anfield farewell speech on the last day of the Premier League season.

Slot failed to retain Feyenoord’s status as Eredivisie champions during his last campaign but arrives in England’s northwest determined to lead Liverpool to a new period of success.

Liverpool’s vice-captain Alexander-Arnold was one of a number of emotional figures as Klopp departed the club but has now backed Slot for success upon the England star’s arrival at the Monaco GP qualifying session.

Pressed on whether it would be a smooth transition following Klopp’s departure, Alexander-Arnold told Sky Sports:

‘I hope so you know, that’s all you can hope, ‘ he said.

‘I have trust in the club and who we’ve appointed so as a player that’s all you can ask for is to have trust in what the higher ups have brought in and I’m sure it will be a smooth transition.’

Slot was recently spotted exploring Liverpool for the first time ahead of starting his new role and dined at the popular Moor Hall restaurant as he attempts to settle into life in England.

Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold is enjoying a mini rest break following the end of the Premier League season that saw Liverpool finish third before returning to England for national team duties ahead of the upcoming European Championship.

The 25-year-old was named as a midfielder in Gareth Southgate’s provisional squad and was further asked about England’s position as being tournament favourites to lift the top honour in Germany.

However, the Liverpool star remained coy on expectations within England’s camp, adding: ‘I don’t know what people are making us, we go there tyring to do our best and hopefully come back successful.’
