UEFA Euro 2024 will take place this summer in Germany starting on June 14.

The tournament will see 51 games played during a one-month period with the opening match to be held in the Allianz Arena in Munich.

Throughout the one-month long competition, games will be played across 10 world-class stadiums in Germany.

The final will be held in the mega 71,000-seater stadium, the Olympiastadion in Berlin.

Euro 2024 Stadiums 

Hosts Germany will get the Euro 2024 tournament underway against fellow Group A opponents Scotland.

The opening game and ceremony will be held at Bayern Munich’s stadium, the Allianz Arena.

The game will kick-off at 8pm (BST).

This will be the first of six games to be held at the Munich Arena, with one of the semi-finals also to be played at the famed venue. 

With a capacity of 67,000, you would think the Allianz Arena would take top spot for both hosting the final and having the biggest venue.

However the Olympiastadion in Berlin, the home of Hertha Berlin is where the Euro 2024 final will be played.

Olympiastadion, Berlin holds a jaw dropping capacity of 71,000.

The 88-year-old stadium has previously hosted the 2015 Champions League final between Barcelona and Juventus, where Messi and Co lifted the trophy and also the 2006 World Cup.

The biggest stadium on display at the Euro 2024 tournament, the Olympiastadion has hosted every Germany cup final since 1985.

Built in 1936 for the purpose of the 1936 Olympic games, the stadium holds a lot of history not only for football but athletics as well. 

The stadium held the 2009 Athletics World Championships which saw Usain Bolt break the world record for both the 100m (9.58s) and 200m (19.19s) – both of which still remain the world bests today. 

The eye-catching stadium has also staged multiple high-profile games at both club and international level. 

Including the 2015 Champions League final between Barcelona and Juventus and the 2006 World Cup final between Italy and France.

So it comes as no surprise that the 71,000-seat stadium has been selected to host six out of the 51 games including the final on Sunday, July 14.

The oldest grounds at this year’s Euro tournament, a stadium has existed in Mungersdorf, Cologne since 1923, however the current stadium which sits on the historic site, is the third iteration built on the same site.

The latest version of Cologne Stadium was constructed in the early 2000s in preparation for the 2006 World Cup. 

Since 2010 the stadium has been the venue for the Germany’s Women’s Cup final and has also hosted American football and ice hockey games, as well as music concerts.

This summer the stadium will host five games in total, with the last involvement being a last-16 tie on the Sunday, June 30.

BVB Dortmund – otherwise known as Signal Iduna Park will host six 2024 Euro matches 

Recognised across the world for its infamous atmosphere, BVB Dortmund – or Signal Iduna Park which it is also called –  will host six games at this year’s Euro tournament, including one of the semi-finals. 

Home to Germany football giants Borussia Dortmund, the 62,000 capacity stadium is renowned for its spectacular atmosphere largely credited to the 24,454 capacity terraced Sudtribune (South Terraced).

The terrace which has been coined the Die Gelbe Wand or ‘The Yellow Wall’ in recognition of the large number of Dortmund fans who don jerseys, scarves, flags and yellow flares. 

The ground was purpose built for the 1974 World Cup – where the stadium hosted four games.

The famed venue also hosted six games during the 2006 World Cup and has hosted European Cup ties including the 2000-01 UEFA Cup final between Liverpool and Alaves.

One of the smaller venues for UEFA Euro 2024, Dusseldorf has a capacity of 40,000 and is home to Fortuna Dusseldorf who currently reside in the second tier of Germany football.

The stadium was built in the early 2000s and completed in 2004, Euro 2024 will be the first major football tournament it has hosted.  

However the retractable roof and heating system has made it the perfect venue for other sporting events, most notably Tyson Fury’s 2015 win over Wladimir Klitschko and music events like the 2011 Eurovision song contest.

Frankfurt Arena built in 1925, the home of Eintracht Frankfurt has staged many games at several major tournaments including the 1998 UEFA European Championship and the 2006 World Cup.

The stadium which originally had a capacity of 35,000 in 1925 has underwent two major reconstructions, one in the 1950s and the other in the 1970s.

The stadium is rich in history, with the ground being built on a former military shooting range.

The venue doesn’t just host football games, in 2023 the stadium held two NFL regular-season games and Muhammad Ali also fought inside the stadium in 1966 when he beat German Karl Mildenberger for the world heavyweight title.

Another state-of-the-art stadium at this summer’s Euro 2024, Arena AufSchalke is home of Bundesliga FC Schalke was opened in 2001.

The stadium located in the city of Gelsenkirchen has both a retractable roof and pitch, making it the dream venue for all events.

The pitch can be moved in and out of the stadium in four hours, allowing grass to grow in more natural conditions and also protecting the turf from the various other events which are hosted at the venue.

These include speedway, winter sports and music concerts. Global popstar and icon Taylor Swift is set to take her billion dollar Eras Tour to the venue in July 2024.

As for football events, the stadium will hold bitter memories for England fans as it was in this stadium where Wayne Rooney received a red card against Portugal in their 2006 World Cup quarter-final loss.

The stadium also hosted the 2004 Champions League final which saw Jose Mourhino’s Porto side beat Monaco to lift the trophy

The Volksparkstadion – home to one of the Bundesliga’s founding clubs Hamburg SV – will host five games at Euro 2024. 

The current stadium which was built in the late 1990s was built on the former site of the original ground which was built in the 1950s and made up of materials that came from the ruins of Eimsbuttel. 

Eimsbuttel was a district of Hamburg that was destroyed under allied bombing in World War II. 

Despite the fact that the stadiums occupants are playing second tier football, the stadium remains an elite-level UEFA category 4 stadium, making it eligible to host footballs most prestigious matches. 

The latest to make use of the stadium’s elite status is Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk – who hosted their home Champions League fixtures at the venue for the 2023-23 season due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. 

Fulham also played at the venue in the 2010 Europa League final, where the English side lost out on lifting the trophy to Atletico Madrid.

The smallest stadium at Euro 2024  but by far not the least impressive. The Leipzig stadium – otherwise known as the Red Bull Arena – features a state-of-the-art roof.

The venue which opened in 2004 was rebuilt inside the shell of the old Zentralstadion – which was the biggest stadium in the former East Germany.   

Many football fans will get a sense of familiarity this summer as the impressive stadium often features on TV screens on a Tuesday and Wednesday thanks to RB Leipzig’s continued top-flight success which has earned them a spot in the Champions League.

The stadium also hosted five games at the 2006 World Cup.

Since being built in 1993, the Stuttgart Arena has been renovated and modernised a handful of times during the stadium’s long history.

The stadium which is home to VFB Stuttgart goes by several names most notable the MHPArena for sponsorship reasons and the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

The 51,000-seater stadium has hosted several sporting events in the past, including the 1993 World Athletics Championships and American football Eurobowl finals.

However after the 2011 renovations to the stadium, it was made a football-only venue.

During these renovations 18 undetonated bombs from World War II air raids were found on the site. 

The Stuttgart Arena is no stranger to hosting big event as it hosted games in both the 1974 World Cup and 2006 World Cup.
