Manchester United will not entertain a loan for Harry Maguire.
The England defender is open to leaving for more first team football before the deadline and there is expected to be renewed interest in the next few days from West Ham while Everton and Newcastle could come into the picture depending on injuries.
However, United’s stance remains that they will only consider a sale. West Ham failed to agree on a £30m deal with United earlier this month and the Old Trafford side still need to raise funds through sales if they are to buy and strengthen their own squad.
United’s focus remains on bringing in a left-back with Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella, Barcelona’s Marcos Alonso and Brentford’s Rico Henry among their list of options.
They also want a midfielder with Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch and Sofyan Ambrabat of Fiorentina in their sights. As yet, they are unaware of interest from Bayern Munich in Scott McTominay.

Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils need to raise funds for two more signings before Friday’s deadline
West Ham’s immediate priority is on bringing in another striker with technical director Tim Steidten in Brazil negotiating with Corinthians over the signing of forward Yuri Alberto, 22.
There is interest in Michail Antonio but David Moyes is reluctant to let the Jamaican international go despite Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq, managed by Steven Gerrard, showing an interest.
Chelsea eye trio of forward targets
Names floated for Chelsea as potential forward targets include Ferran Torres and Raphinha at Barcelona and Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe.
Interest is not particularly advanced but that trio are among the names being discussed by the Chelsea hierarchy at this stage.
Tottenham want sales – but Dier is aiming to stay
Tottenham are looking to offload a number of their squad before Friday’s 11pm deadline but defender Eric Dier would prefer to see out his contract if possible and leave as a free agent next year.
Fulham are among the clubs to have considered the England international who has dropped down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou and following the arrival of Micky van der Ven.
Tottenham are hoping to offload a number of other squad players: One is left-back Sergio Reguilon, amid interest from Fulham, Manchester United – to a lesser degree – and Forest.
Davinson Sanchez is another who has drawn interest from Forest, Fulham and Monaco while midfielder Giovani Lo Celso’s situation has attracted Napoli. Forest have also made an offer for Benfica keeper Odysseas Vlachodimos too – who was on Manchester United’s list as backup for Andre Onana before their Altay Bayindir deal.
One surprise could be Paris Saint-Germain returning for midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.
The French champions have asked about the 26-year-old at each of the last three transfer windows and are considering another attempt for the former France international.

Spurs eye up Brennan Johnson
Brennan Johnson’s move to Tottenham is expected to take shape after their Carabao Cup game with Fulham on Tuesday.
Talks took place at the weekend over a move that Confidential first told you about in July and Tottenham are willing to offer cash plus players.
Some of those available could figure on Tuesday evening and the game will give Nottingham Forest the opportunity to assess further who could fit in with Steve Cooper’s side – should they agree to the deal. Brentford have not gone away either.
They made another approach at the end of last week after having bids up to £40m rejected earlier in the window and seeing a £34m offer dismissed for Nicolas Gonzalez of Fiorentina.
Meanwhile, Tottenham were among the clubs represented at Metz’s 1-0 win away at Clermont Foot where another potential target, Georges Mikautadze, scored the winner for the away side.

Questions over Chelsea left-backs
Ian Maatsen’s decision over a new contract could have a bearing on Marc Cucurella’s departure from Stamford Bridge.
Cucurella is available for loan and Manchester United made enquiries on Saturday but Chelsea may not be so sure if Holland U21 international left-back Maatsen doesn’t commit to a new deal.
The 21-year-old has been offered a lengthy deal but is unsure over the terms and the validity of signing it. Burnley, Borussia Dortmund and West Ham are all keen on Maatsen and could match or offer better terms too.
Mauricio Pochettino has been impressed with Maatsen and the club would prefer to let Cucurella go at this stage. Chelsea have also shown interest in Boca Juniors’ left-back Valentin Barco but Manchester City are expected to win that race.
Bayern Munich have held initial talks over a move for Trevoh Chalobah while Chelsea still want to add another striker this week as the club look to finalise Romelu Lukaku’s loan move to Roma.
The club is also planning a review of their sporting director roles after the window closes. There is a belief a more streamlined approach is needed after some tense negotiations this summer.
Meanwhile, New York Red Bulls’ teenage defender Jed Akwaboah has been training at Brentford and Chelsea over the past weeks as he looks to impress.

Fulham prepare for Tosin exit
Tosin Adarabioyo is training away from the main group at Fulham as he prepares to leave this week.
The 25-year-old has made it clear he does not want to sign a new contract and wants to go with offers expected from Monaco and Tottenham.
Although he came on as a late substitute against Arsenal on Saturday, Fulham are preparing for him to go and are planning without him.
Monaco are expected to bid within 48 hours once their deal for Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun, a former Fulham target, is wrapped up.
Fulham are working on a number of signings to placate Marco Silva. Swansea goalkeeper Steven Benda is one that is due for a medical on Monday ahead of his potential move.
The 24-year-old German has been out since suffering a knee injury in January but hopes to prove he is fully fit to take a place in Silva’s squad.
Leicester City’s Timothy Castagne is also due to undergo a medical.

Wolves interested in Man City duo
Wolves are very keen to sign Manchester City’s James McAtee but it would be treated separately to the deal for Matheus Nunes.
City have made an improved offer of around £52m for Nunes and Wolves like McAtee and his clubmate Tommy Doyle.
Ajax, Sheffield United and Leicester City also like McAtee with a move to Holland particularly appealing as a potential replacement for Mohammed Kudus.
City are not willing to sell the 20-year-old as he is viewed as a player who can compete for a starting place in the long term but they will consider a loan if it is to a club they feel will further his development
Kalvin Phillips has no desire to leave City despite the pending arrival of Nunes. A number of Premier League clubs have been looking into a loan while City would also consider selling but the England international still wants to fight for his place.
City are working on the addition of left-back Valentin Barco ahead of competition from Brighton, Juventus and Chelsea. They are also working on another South American target.

Sheffield United eyeing up talented teen
Sheffield United are taking a close look at Ryan One this week. One (pronounced Onay) is the 17-year-old Hamilton Academical forward who will be familiar to Confidential readers as he was on Brighton’s radar in July.
They had a bid of £150,000 rejected by Hamilton and the teenager has now been invited into Sheffield United to train for a few days, starting today.
The 6ft 3ins striker also has Burnley, Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest keen to take him. Indeed, Forest are working on a deal for another Hamilton prospect, 16-year-old winger Cormac Daly.
One made his debut for Hamilton in October 2022 as a 16-year-old schoolboy and has been a regular ever since. He has started well this season and scored twice in his last three Scottish League One appearances.
Brighton seal Caicedo replacement
Brighton will complete their move for Carlos Baleba on Tuesday with the midfielder expected to undergo a medical on Monday.
The dynamic 19-year-old has been identified as a replacement for Moises Caicedo and will be joining from Lille for around £24million and will sign a five year contract.

More players to leave Newcastle
Besiktas have asked about Arsenal defender Rob Holding but a deal seems unlikely. The Turkish side have also asked about Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles but Sven Botman’s injury may put paid to that anyway.
Holding also has interest from clubs in Spain. Newcastle midfielder Isaac Hayden is discussing a move to Luton Town as he looks for more regular Premier League game time.
The 28-year-old had been frozen out at Newcastle following their recent midfield signings.
Man United could move for Leicester left back
Leeds United have asked about signing Leicester City left-back Luke Thomas on loan but the Foxes are reluctant to deal with a direct rival.
Manager Daniel Farke is hoping for four or five new additions before Friday with Thomas and Tottenham’s Djed Spence on his wishlist for full-backs.
Both Thomas and Spence also have interest from Premier League sides so are waiting to see what else is on offer. England U21 international Thomas could even come into the reckoning for Manchester United as they consider left-back alternatives to cover Luke Shaw’s injury.
Leicester boss Enzo Maresca prefers not to play his full-backs in an orthodox manner and has already allowed Timothy Castagne to head for Fulham. Thomas is now weighing up his options.
Leeds have made an offer for Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara too but the fee has still to be agreed for the Finland international.

Everton’s Beto talks progressing
Everton are progressing with a deal for Udinese striker Beto on Monday after he flew in for a medical at the weekend. Everton are waiting on funds from Demarai Gray’s proposed move to Al-Shabab if that deal remains on.
There was concern after MSP Sports Capital pulled out of investment talks last week that finances would be restricted for the club to move forward.
However, other companies have stepped forward with Triple Seven among those back in talks with the club hierarchy
Burnley in the race for free agent Cannon
Burnley, Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion and Birmingham City are in the running for USA international right-back Reggie Cannon.
The 25-year-old is a free agent after winning his legal dispute to leave Boavista over unpaid wages.
Cannon, the grandson of atmospheric scientist Dr Warren Washington, said he was paid on time only once in three years at Boavista. He had offers to return to the States but wants to continue in Europe.

Swansea set for defensive reshuffle
Swansea City are targeting Cologne defender Kristian Pedersen and Bristol City’s Zak Vyner.
After Nathan Wood declared he would like to leave and link-up with former manager Russell Martin, Swansea are preparing to strike a deal with Southampton but want £12m.
Denmark international Pedersen was previously at Birmingham City. Vyner, 26, has been a regular under Nigel Pearson.
Brentford invite powerful USA youngster to training
USA midfielder Adeteye Gbadehan was training at Brentford last week. The powerfully built 19-year-old has an English passport and has attracted attention from some top Premier League clubs.
The 6ft 3ins midfielder has previously played for American academy Future SC Monarchs, where he won the 2021 Dallas Cup.
